According to a leaked internal memo, Microsoft will release the first beta version of its anti-spyware software January 6, 2005. According to the Neowin website, which published the memo, the beta is internally dubbed Atlanta and has already been internally distributed. Microsoft acquired Giant Software in December 2004 and immediately said it would release spyware defenses in January 2005. Some analysts believe that Microsoft’s push to increase spyware protection is driven by the increased interest in browsers offering superior spyware protection, such as Mozilla’s Firefox.
