School spokesman Joe Willis announced March 21, 2005 that hackers may have accessed personal information on 59,000 people affiliated with California State University. Hackers attacked the school’s computer servers three weeks before the announcement, and may have accessed information including Social Security numbers on faculty and current, former, and prospective students. Mr. Willis said the school is contacting those affected, and that there is no evidence that the hackers have used the information to commit identity theft.
