Officials from Japan's Social Insurance Agency have announced that 188 employees have accessed the pension records of 26 politicians. Most of the employees viewed the private records from March to June 2004 when the Diet discussed pension reform. 63 employees accessed the records of Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Taro Aso, 52 accessed former Defense Agency chief Shigeru Ishiba's records, and 36 viewed data on Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Shinzo Abe. Other politicians include top cabinet officials and senior members of the LDP. Many of the employees accessed to satisfy personal curiosity over press reports that claimed some politicians had not made their pension payments.
