There may be occasions when you need to send an e-mail to somebody but you don't want them to have your e-mail address or to know who sent the e-mail. There are plenty of legitimate reasons why you might do this. You should not use these services for illegal purposes however. You may be anonymous to the person who receives the e-mail but you are not anonymous to the re-mailer service you use. If they are served with a warrant by a law enforcement agency and they keep IP logs then you may be traced. If you really need to be 100% certain that you cannot be traced then you should use a "cyberpunk" re-mailer. This will be dealt with later on.
The easiest way to send anonymous e-mail is to set yourself up with a web based e-mail service such as MSN Hotmail You can set an account up called monkey123 for example. You can send and receive e-mail via any web browser just by logging on to the site and entering your account details. If you want to stay truly anonymous you should only log on from Internet cafes. If you use your home PC or work PC then it will be possible to trace you as they log all IP addresses. With this in mind you should be wary of doing business with anybody with one of these free accounts for exactly the reasons stated above. A lot of e-commerce sites will not accept orders from people giving a web based e-mail address and will insist on an ISP based web address.
f you do not want to go to the trouble of setting up a web based account then you can visit one of the web based anonymous re-mailers. Simply visit the site - enter the e-mail address of the person you wish to send the message to and type your message.
Click here to send an anonymous e-mail Leave the sender address blank or put in an amusing name if you wish but only put in the first part of the address without the @. |
